PulmonologyA major innovation for interventional pulmonology
Important microscopic level processes take place in the distal part of the lungs. Until now, not only were the alveoli unreachable by conventional endoscopes, but no modality could provide cellular information of this region.
Moreover, histology specimens, when they can be obtained in the distal lungs, are often of poor quality and generally do not lead to a conclusive diagnosis.
Probe-based Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy (pCLE) with the Cellvizio® system is intended to provide real-time dynamic microscopic imaging of the distal lungs that is currently unavailable using any other technique. Real-time dynamic imaging with AlveoFlex™ may open a whole new world in interventional pulmonology.
New relevant information available in real time
Cellvizio® probe-based Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy (pCLE) can be combined with advanced endoscopic modalities and electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) and therefore allows physicians to visualize the cellular nature of the bronchial tree in real-time. This direct visualization may allow better targeting of peripheral nodules or other lesions in the distal lungs for tissue sampling, as shown in the literature and in the case report below.
Offering better options for patients
With the fluorescence capabilities of pCLE, users of the AlveoFlex™ have been able to change the traditional management of their patient by offering alternatives to surgical biopsies, needle biopsies, or “watch and wait” strategies. The immediate availability of precise imagery of these remote areas of the lung brings a new powerful tool to the pulmonologist's armamentarium.
Hospitals adopting AlveoFlex™ have shown a cutting edge approach to the diagnosis and treatment of some of the most serious pathologies patients can incur.
A noninvasive procedure with no preparation needed
Patients may benefit from pCLE without any additional procedure preparation. A simple procedure may go a long way in offering them a better treatment option.
Avoiding unnecessary invasive procedures
The ability to see and possibly treat an area of interest during the same broncoscopy procedure has the potential of avoiding unnecessary and costly surgical procedures, ultimately resulting in overall cost effectiveness.
Adding value to your bronchoscopy procedures
Using pCLE has been shown to be safe and effective in providing in vivo cellular. In many instances, pCLE has been shown to provide physicians with additional real-time decision making information. As a cutting-edge, endoscopic technology adopted by leading pulmonary.
